Optometry students participate in vision screening

Students from Department of Optometry and Vision Science were involved in vision screening in Barkava. Barkava is an administrative unit of the Madona Municipality that is located about 187 kilometres from the capital city of Latvia – Riga.

About 140 pupils from Barkava elementary school and Degumnieki elementary school were tested. After the vision screening, stuff members from Department of Optometry and Vision Science gave a lecture to teachers and parents. They were introduced to the most important things about pupils’ vision and had an opportunity to ask different questions about vision.

In 2011, Department of Optometry and Vision Science started a project funded by ERAF. Within the project, more than 10000 pupils from schools in Riga participated in vision screening. After this, a new vision screening program was introduced.
