in the international arena, and a favourable review was duly published in the English avant-garde music magazine, THE WIRE. Seven years later, a follow-up exhibition SKAN II has been included in the official programme of events celebrating Riga 2014 – European Capital of Culture. On this occasion too, the exhibition has attracted outstanding artists from all over the world, for whom sound is at the very epicentre of their creative oeuvre. In the context of sound art, the space in which the works of art are exhibited is of paramount importance, and is defined by its architectonic, historical, social and acoustic attributes. The work of art unquestionably interacts with the space in which it is aired. With this in mind, the venues chosen for this exhibition are the University of Latvia’s Botanical Garden in Riga, as well as the Kalnciems Quarter Gallery and Pardaugava’s wooden manor houses. The goal of SKAN II is to allow this aesthetic experience to attract not only art lovers, but also chance bypassers

On September 29 this year, within the annual Research Poetics Seminar of the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art at the University of Latvia (UL), Dr. Hist, German historian and the author of many scientific publications, as well as translations, delivered her guest lecture „The Poetic of Baltic Studies or What Rhymes with Estonia?” The lecture was followed up by discussions among the researchers from various branches of humanities, as well as students. The discussed problems concerned the interrelations of culture theories, social anthropology and literary science and disciplinary borders in the modern humanities. The seminar also presented Ulrike Plath’s monograph „Esten und Deutsche. The ERASMUS + project DigitALAD (Digital Adult Educators: Preparing Adult Educators for a Digital World) (2019-1-LV01-KA204-060398), led by the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art of the University of Latvia has produced a handbook for educators working with adults to develop their digital competence. This handbook summarizes information on 22 digital competences and offers lesson plans to help to develop them. In total, the handbook consists of 5 chapters that provide information on what digital competences are, what skills need to be acquired to operate in a digital environment, what digital pedagogical competencies are needed to help adults learn digital skills and how to use digital tools to assess acquired skills. and to support learners in acquiring these skills. The handbook is currently available in English ( handbook_english ), but it is translated into the languages ​​of all project partner countries - Latvian, Spanish, Greek, French, and will be freely available

The University of Latvia Faculty of Humanities Department of Latvian and Baltic Studies invites interested persons to participate in the 13th International Scientific Conference "Literature and Religion" in Riga, 4a Visvalža Street, December 6–7, 2019. The theme of the conference this year is Fathers’ Sins. Speakers are invited to study the origins and aftermath of these images and motifs in the Bible, literature, art and culture. The conference invites potential speakers to give presentations on the interaction between theology and literary studies, religious and literary, artistic, theatrical, cinematic and musical forms, offering analysis and interpretation of works of art inspired by specific religious themes. Estonian Academy of arts (EKA) provides higher education in art, design, architecture, media, art history and conservation-restoration, promoting creativity and research throughthose fields. Project: Foresight Centre of the Estonian Parliament has collaborated with the Estonian Academyof Arts for the second timefor a three weeks-long Speculative Design course. Students from Product Design BA and Interaction Design MA curriculums worked together in teams to speculate on the future of retirementin 2050. Lecturer: Nesli Hazal Akbulut, is an interaction designer and an educator based in Tallinn. She has obtained her Master's Degree from EKA's International Interaction Design Masters program where she currently works as a lecturer and a curriculum developer.
