Graduations at the University of Latvia

The graduation ceremonies at the University of Latvia commenced on Friday, June 11, and will continue up to July 14, 2010. All in all, about 5 800 new specialists are graduating from the University this academic year. This summer at 35 ceremonies diplomas will be awarded to about 4750 students from 13 faculties of the University of Latvia. This academic year f irst graduations took place in the autumn semester and 1059 new specialists have already graduated from the University. This summer the Faculty of Economics and Management will yield the highest number of graduates – about 1350, the Faculty of Law – about 600 and the Faculty of Social Sciences – 470. Traditionally graduation ceremonies are held at the heart of Alma Mater – at the Great Hall; this year is no exception and most of the ceremonies will take place there. of the Orders adopted a decision to award the Cross of Recognition for special merits for the benefit of the State of Latvia in accordance with Article 30 of the Law of State Decorations, and to appoint: 1. Commander of the Cross of Recognition: Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, leading researcher, professor of the University of Latvia Faculty of Biology, academician, Dr. biol. Jānis Kloviņš. 2. Officer of the Cross of Recognition: Researcher at the University of Latvia Institute of Philosophy and Sociology Māra Zirnīte. On this occasion, the highest state honours were awarded to 79 prominent members of the society. Order of the Three Stars was awarded to 34 individuals, Order of Viesturs to 10 individuals and Cross of Recognition – to 35 individuals. Honours have been awarded to exceptional individuals of all backgrounds, including medical professionals, whose courage and dedication was crucial for maintaining public health and safety

As therevocation of adiploma is amatter that falls within thescope of aperson's private life, therevocation must be subject to acertain regulatory framework. In Latvia, this regulation has shortcomings, so it needs to be improved. Getting acquainted with thecase law of Latvia and other countries, Latvian legal regulation, legal literature and rules of other countries, problems of Latvian legal regulation have been identified and solutions have been proposed. They concern theapplicable law, thecompetent institution, theperiod of time that has elapsed since thedefence of thediploma.

Vieslekcija un darbnīca veltīta divu valstu tiesību tradīciju līdzību un atšķirību analīzei. Vieslektors dr.iur. Jakob Maziarz ir pētnieks Jagaiļa Universitātes Juridiskās fakultātes Polijas tiesību vēstures katedrā, Sosnovecas apgabaltiesas tiesnesis. Pabeidzis pētniecības praksi Vīnes un Jēnas universitātēs. Lekcija notiks 40. auditorijā (452. telpa, 4. stāvā). Jakob Maziarz , PhD in law, a researcher at the Department of the History of Polish Law at the Faculty of Law of the Jagiellonian University.
