Similarly, we cannot state with certainty, whether they were here during the age of the Livonian state, but when the confederacy collapsed and had its lands included in the territory of the still-mighty Polish-Lithuanian union, agreements were signed which stated that the Jews had no right to conduct business or trade or even to live in the territory of the former Livonian state. This statement does not directly testify to the presence of Jews in the area at the time, but neither does it rule out the possibility that Jews were present in the area covered by the Business was not always a secure or clean thing in the 19th century agreements. I can’t tell you how many doors have been opened in my life because I speak Latvian – says Laura Dean, a guest lecturer at University of Latvia in the Social science faculty this semester through the Fulbright program sponsored by the US government. Laura Dean has a long history with University of Latvia – she taught the first course at University of Latvia on gender and politics at the faculty. She was also a former international student at University of Latvia in 1999 when she was an undergraduate student from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and again as a master's student in 2007-2008. How did Latvia become a place for your research and work? I was an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and I went to a study abroad fair my first semester of university. I studied political science and I always knew I wanted to study abroad. There were basically two programs where I could study Political Science in English. I had taken Spanish in high school

Even after graduation, Juris continues to support the university, stressing his duty to support his alma mater. What do you do for a living? Most of the time is spent at my employer’s, the company “Samsung”. I head the work with “the big customers", directly dealing with technologies, telephones and all IT equipment and cooperating with the largest operators in Latvia. Let's say, I am responsible for collaboration and everything that happens between the operators and the company. Work is very interesting, because it is related to the events and processes worldwide. The industry is extremely variable. At the same time, of course, I aim for constant improvement. At the moment, we have started a small enterprise of beer production

UL New Technology and Innovation Day On May 17 at the UL Academic Centre, Jelgavas iela, House of Nature and House of Science an extensive programme was launched to mark the UL New Technology and Innovation Day. Throughout the day, everyone was invited to attend events, participate in discussions at the Future Idea Lab and the University of the Future Society. All day long, "I dare, I think, I create!" competition entertained the small intellectuals – the pupils of grades 4 to 5 took part in activities and explored the world of technology in the vast House of Science labs.
