Ukrainians are learning Latvian in the summer school

The war in Ukraine, which started this year, has brought drastic changes to everyone’s lives, especially the everyday lives of the residents of Ukraine. The University of Latvia (UL) has taken action in order to support the students from Ukraine who are studying in Latvia. A charity campaign “For free Ukraine” was started this spring to aid UL students from Ukraine by applying tuition fee discounts, as well as to make it possible for the students to live in UL dormitories for free and receive psychological help. The donations are administered by the UL Foundation. The director of UL Pre-studies Training Centre Sarmīte Miltiņa has stated the following about the opportunity to support the students: “We, the University of Latvia and the Summer School of Latvian Language and Culture, are honored to be able to assist Ukrainians in learning Latvian and discovering our history and culture during these times of obscurity. We hope that the gained knowledge will not only be of assistance
Numbers and Facts: Foreign Students in the Context of Latvian Language Learning

This article analyses theresults of higher education, as reflected in theknowledge, skills, social aptitudes and values of university graduates, looking at theextent to which these are in line with thedemands of thelabour market. Thepurpose of thepaper is to analyse theLatvian language as ameans of society integration and cohesion, and on thebasis of conducted analysis and thebest practice review to elaborate suggestions for further society integration opportunities. Thestudy applies evaluation design as it provides an overview of thecorresponding legal enactments in thefield of official language and society integration policy and implementation thereof, an analysis of educational opportunities in thecontext of language learning with aparticular emphasis on non-formal adult language learning. Association for Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE) is having an international conference “Innovations, technologies and research in education” which will be held at University of Latvia, on June 7 – 8. The attendees of conference will have an opportunity to learn more about Latvian education innovation companies and their products, including Zvaigzne ABC Digital solutions . Zvaigzne ABC has been creating various digital learning materials for more than 9 years. During this time, the company has invested a lot of work in maintaining and improving the quality of the content, continued to adapt its products to the pace of technology, and educated teachers and others involved in teaching and learning. The conference will include representatives from Zvaigzne ABC Digital solutions department who will share their experience and the knowledge gained from developing the content. Every semester the Centre of Applied Linguistics of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Latvia, offers international students to study the Latvian language. Now five groups (levels A1-B1) of international students are learning the practical Latvian language. Students come to Latvia from various countries in the frames of Erasmus+ mobility programme: from Germany, the USA, Australia, Italy, France, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Russia, China, Korea, Japan, Poland, Lithuania, and from many others. The Centre of Applied Linguistics offers international students to acquire the practical Latvian language at different levels (from A1 to B2) in the frames of a 6 ECTS course. The majority of students learn Latvian for one semester at A1 level, since their Erasmus period lasts for one semester. However, there are students who stay longer, or who at their home universities study Latvian or Baltic philology (mostly they are from Poland or Lithuania
