ETHICS AS ACOUSTIC ART OF LIFE: AUGUSTS MILTS Velga Vēvere On May 28, 2018, a conference / commemorative event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Augusts Milts (1928–2008) “About Life, Ethics and Oral History” took place at the University of Latvia. This article is based on a report presented at that conference. Two thematic fields are outlined- time and autobiographical motifs – attitudes to one’s own life and texts, as well as manifestations of ethics as art of life. The focus points of the article are A. Milts’s roles as an ethics professor and an author of literary philosophical essays and paradoxes. Most of A. Milts’s texts on ethical issues have a strong pedagogical intent – lectures, textbooks, didactic essays that serve as a reference for ethics (including professional ethics) teachers in schools and universities today. Still, it seems that the most important legacy that we have inherited from him is practicing responsibility in one’s own life – ecological, economic

The small island of La Gomera lies 5,000 km distant from Riga. Due to ever evolving forms of telecommunication and social transformations, El Silbo, the whistling language of La Gomera's native Guanches, isthreatened with extinction.El Silbo is a means of communication that transforms verbal speech intowhistles. Originally, it made communication across great distancespossible. A whistle can deliver a message across a distance of fivekilometres, thus transmitting the human voice as far as possible withoutthe use of any technical aids. By the 1970s the language of El Silbo had almost died out. And thenscientists began to research it. Thanks to this outside perspective, El Silbo became an integral element in the formation of the culturalidentity of the residents of La Gomera. The initial context in which thewhistled language was used

Manuprāt, mecenāti to ļoti labi zina, tāpēc šī stipendija tiek piešķirta tieši pirmajam gadam,” spriež Artis. „Nenāku studēt tikai tāpēc, lai būtu augstākā izglītība - vēlos tiešām būt spējīgs darboties savā nozarē.” Jaunietis spriež, ka stipendija „Ceļamaize” norāda, ka ir vēl palikuši nesavtīgi cilvēki, kuri vēlas redzēt Latviju bagātu ar izglītotiem un mērķtiecīgiem jauniešiem, turklāt tā ir lieliska iespēja maznodrošinātam jaunietim izsisties
