On November 9, the University of Latvia (LU) Academic Centre, House of Science, will host “ChoirUp” – a sing-together event, where visitors will join in the song by a piano accompaniment of the outstanding pianist Vestards Šimkus.

“ChoirUp” is a cycle of sing-together events where everyone can enjoy singing together with friends and musicians. Participation in “ChoirUp” doesn't require you to prepare in advance, study the lyrics, read scores, or have any special cappacities of voice –  the key is to have a good time!

This time, “ChoirUp” event at the House of Science will feature songs related to science, nature and space. “The lead song will be the great hit by the band “Instrumenti” – Visā visumā Visums ir viss, that can be approximately translated as “Universally, Universe is universal”, which will be even more unique by conductor Nora Zeigure and Vestrards Šimkus’ piano accompaniment! After that, we will all continue to sing and enjoy songs that have an association with science both in Latvian and English languages,” explain the organizers of “ChoirUp”.

The House of Science has been chosen as the venue for the singing, as the “ChoirUp” movement was initiated by singers of the UL Mixed Choir “Dziesmuvara” – Ernests JenavsLaura Valtere and Nora Žeigure.

“It seemed like a great idea to celebrate the centenary of UL with this event. In our opinion, the House of Science symbolizes the future of the University of Latvia,” emphasizes E. Jenavs, a founder of the movement.

The sing-together will have two parts – during part one, all those present  under the guidance of Nora Žeigure, will learn the song Visā visumā Visums ir viss. This will be followed by the “concert part” with the participation of Vestards Šimkus, the performance will be filmed and also recorded in audio format. In the second part, just like in the Latvian National Song Festival, there will be singing of freely chosen songs.

E. Jenavs invites anyone who likes singing to come to “ChoirUp” – even if the voice is not trained in a choir or ensemble.

““ChoirUp” is a cycle of sing-together events that regularly brings together everyone who wants to sing, be they choir singers, quiet hummers or shower soloists, to unite in a positive atmosphere with cool people in a song,” the organizers emphasize in their call to participate in the event.

“ChoirUp” will appreciate it, if the visitors provide donations to help to continue “ChoirUp” organisation. Suggested donation: 3–5 EUR.
