Scientific assistant of KPMI D.Pupola defends master's thesis

On June 7th, at the Academic Centre of University of Latvia KPMI Scientific assistant Dārta Pūpola defended her Master Thesis on the "Long-term Effects of Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin Combined Therapy on Gastrointestinal Microbioma". The supervisor of the master's thesis is Mārcis Leja ( Director of the LU KPMI), but scientific adviser - Dita Gudrā (LV BMC). The result is a Master's degree in Biology.

Three students from Latvia will participate in EU - Canada Study Tour 2012

It is the third year when students from the University of Latvia take part in the one month long “Thinking Canada” study tour to Brussels and Canada organised by European Network for Canadian Studies and funded generously by the European Commission. This year there are three students from the University of Latvia participating in the study tour as part of the group of total 32 students representing various European countries and academic backgrounds. Two of these students – Javier Mendoza Jimenez (representing the Kingdom of Spain in the tour) and Aleksandrs Dahs come from the European Studies Master's Programme, while Vladimirs Rojenko is currently studying in Strategic Management and Leadership Masters programme at the Faculty of Economics and Management. Aim of the “Thinking Canada” programme is to promote interest in Canadian studies in Europe and to develop a new generation of educated individuals who are interested in Canada and its relations with EU. Latvijas Universitātes florbolisti iesākuši sezonu ar mainīgām sekmēm

Sezona sākusies Latvijas Čempionāta pirmajā līgā, kurā startē “Latvijas Universitāte / FS Masters” komanda. Sezona iesākusies ar trijām uzvarām piecās spēlēs. Čempionātā kopā startē 18 komandas no visas Latvijas, kā arī divas komandas no Igaunijas. Uzvaras izcīnītas pret “FK Jeno”, “Leģions/Grobiņas SC” un “FK Kurši FSS” komandām. Diemžēl divās spēlēs nācās atzīt pretinieku komandu pārspēku. Rezultatīvi sezonu iesācis students Mareks Brutāns, kurš ar 10 punktiem ir komandas rezultatīvākais spēlētājs. FS Masters sistēmas virslīgas komanda “Latvijas Hipotēka/Oxdog Ulbroka” pēc nospēlētām 7 spēlēm atrodas virslīgas tabulas pirmajā vietā. Pēdējās spēlēs rezultatīvu sniegumu demonstrē Latvijas Universitātes studenti Rolands Kovaļevskis un Kristers Eglītis. Stabilu sniegumu turpina demonstrēt Latvijas Universitātes studenti Emīls Birķis un Emīls Ērglis, savukārt Kārlis Petrovskis turpina atgūties pēc savainojuma. "LU/FS Masters" uzvar un izcīna trīs punktus

9. novembrī Ulbrokas sporta kompleksā notika aizraujoša florbola spēle, kurā "Latvijas Universitāte/FS Masters" komanda uzņēma „Lielvārdes Sporta centrs“. "LU/FS Masters" jau no spēles pirmās minūtes dominēja laukumā, izcīnot uzvaru ar rezultātu 11:2. Spēle sākās straujā tempā, un jau 4. minūtē Nikolass Burbo (piespēle – Valdis Valters Vanags) izvirzīja "LU/FS Masters" vadībā ar 1:0. Drīz vien Renārs Liepiņš (piespēle – Jiri Čižek) guva otros vārtus, nostiprinot komandas pārsvaru. Perioda turpinājumā Gustavs Liekniņš (piespēle – Kārlis Felšus) panāca 3:0, taču „LielvārdesSportacentrs" atbildēja ar precīzu Alekša Saļkova metienu. Pirmais periods noslēdzās ar rezultātu 3:1 Universitātes komandas labā. Otrajā periodā "LU/FS Masters" turpināja dominēt. Kārlis Felšus (piespēle – Gustavs Liekniņš) guva ceturtos vārtus, bet Gustavs Liekniņš realizēja soda metienu, palielinot pārsvaru līdz 5:1. Aizvadītās nedēļas darba dienu izskaņā, 12. janvārī, florbola komanda “Latvijas Universitāte/FS Masters” viesos uzņēma “FK Ozolnieki/JN”. Piektdienas vakarā “Rimi OC” fanus priecēja pārliecinoša universitātes florbola komandas spēle, kas rezultējās ar graujošu rezultātu 11 pret 4 “Latvijas Universitāte/FS Masters” labā. Pirmo trešdaļu iesākām mierīgi ļaujot rezultātu atklāt pretiniekiem ar diviem vārtu guvumiem pēc kārtas. 16.minūtē spēli lēnām pārņēmām savā kontrolē atspēlējot vienu vārtu guvumu. Nevēloties pārtraukumā doties iedzinēju pozīcijā pēdējās pirmās trešdaļas sekundēs guvām arī otros vārtus, kas izlīdzināja rezultātu 2:2. Atgriežoties pēc veiksmīgas 10 minūšu pauzes, pilnīga spēles kontrole bija “LU/FS Masters” pārvaldībā. 29. un 31. minūtē precīzi raidījām bumbiņu pretinieku vārtos, izveidojot 2 punktu pārsvaru. “FK Ozolnieki/JN” gan 2 minūtes pēc pēdējo vārtu guvuma atspēlēja 1 punktu. Ne tikai spēles kontrole, bet arī veiksme bija mūsu pusē. Mūsu florbolisti guva 4
