In 2012, when it became a coordinator of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) project, investing in the development of infrastructure for the Latvian Nanostructured Research Centre (LATNANO-C), clean room facility was created to serve research, education (for bachelor, master's and doctoral studies), innovations (technology transfer in close cooperation with companies) and international cooperation. Leaded by noble goals, Peter Alunans – a long-time patron of the University of Latvia (UL) living in America – has begun to support young people in a neighbouring university. For the first time a scholarship was awarded to a student at the Vilnius University (VU) through mediation of the UL Foundation. Peter Alunan's family scholarship was founded in 2001 in cooperation with the UL Foundation. It aims to support young people facing difficulties in life. When P. Alunans with his father Alexander Alunans decided to donate to Latvia's growth, it was clear that the aim will be youth education. The man must be educated, then the rest of his life will come easier – were the words of A. Alunans. This year, the patron expanded the scale of charity.Parents of P. Alunans are Latvians. He was born in the Second World War refugee camp in Germany, and in 1950 the Alunans family entered the United States. Family education is a matter of honor, Alunans has a master's degree in biology and German

Several years ago, the young man briefly visited Latvia for the first time, just passing through. The quick impression proved strong enough to return to Latvia and start his studies. In addition to his studies at the University of Latvia, twenty-three-year-old Korean Hwije Im is actively creating content on social networks. He has created a "Youtube" channel in Korean language, which tells about Latvia to foreign viewers. Hwije travelled extensively before commencing his studies, and visited the Baltic states, including Latvia in one of his travels. “I have visited more than 50 countries and travelled through Latvia. The students and postgraduates will spend five days intensively reflecting on the concept of symbolic borders. A detailed programme can be found here . On the first day, in the conference room of the Opole University Museum, the opening lecture will be presented by Benno Herzog, professor of sociology at the University of Valencia, who specialises in the study of discourse. The lecture, open to all those interested, will be followed by an interdisciplinary discussion, while in the afternoon participants will take part in a 'sociological' walk around Opole. In the evening, the Meduza cinema will host a screening of a documentary on post-World War 2 resettlement, and a final discussion of the day. The second day will have the form of a symposium.
