European Studies Master Programme Graduation Ceremony 2011

On June 16th, 2011 the European Studies Master Programme held its annual Graduation Ceremony. As tradition indicates it took place in the Great Hall at the University of Latvia. In total nineteen students graduated with all academic distinctions. Among the recent graduates were students not only from Latvia, but also from Azerbaijan, and the Netherlands. Throughout the graduates’ two-year programme students placed emphasis on deepening their knowledge of European Studies within the dimensions of economics, law, political science/public administration with components from history, international relations, regional science and other relevant disciplines. During their studies, European Studies students had the opportunity to participate in a practical seminar in Brussels and Luxembourg.The visit to key EU institutions and NATO headquarters allowed students to meet representatives of each institution and participated in discussions on current topics relating to EU policy. European Studies Master Programme students meet Stanford University students

On April 24, 2013, European Studies Master Programme students met with students from Stanford University in Berlin who have come to study visit in Riga, Latvia. The group of 40 Stanford University students was led by Professor Dr. Uli Bueckner and Professor Dr. Karen Kramer. The meeting was held at the European Commission Representation in Latvia, "EU House", and it was organized in the framework of discussion moderated by Romans Putāns, ph.D. candidate, researcher at the Centre for European and Transition Studies (CETS) and graduate of the European Studies Master Programme. During the discussion, issues related to Latvia as a member of the EU as well as education and study process in Latvia were discussed. The opening lecture about Latvia`s economic developments was given by Professor Dr. Tatjana Muravska, director of European Studies Master Programme and head of the CETS at the University of Latvia, followed by interventions from other members of CETS – graduates

On June 7th, at the Academic Centre of University of Latvia KPMI Scientific assistant Dārta Pūpola defended her Master Thesis on the "Long-term Effects of Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin Combined Therapy on Gastrointestinal Microbioma". The supervisor of the master's thesis is Mārcis Leja ( Director of the LU KPMI), but scientific adviser - Dita Gudrā (LV BMC). The result is a Master's degree in Biology.
“Intercultural Embassy invites…” evening with V.Muktupavels, director of the Baltic Sea region master studies programme

The 7th „Intercultural Embassy invites…” evening will happen on January 21st at 6 p.m. This time Intercultural Embassy guest will be Valdis Muktupavels, associate professor of ethnomusicology and director of the Baltic Sea region master studies programme in the University of Latvia. Valdis Muktupavels line of the topic will be “Postmodern Baltic identity”. The welcoming ‘Intercultural Ambassador’ will be Dagnija Baltina, Secretary-General of the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO and participant of the British Council’s project “Intercultural Navigators”. This is the time for mutual understanding and development of new friendship. It is a pleasure for European Studies Master Programme to host guests from Institute of Europe, the Kaunas University of Technology. We sincerely believe that it will be the continuation of good and deep-rooted friendship. Nena Markovic, Raimonds Kokarevics and Javier Mendoza, students of the second year of the European Studies Master Program were awarded with a Certificate of honor for significant contribution to developing of scientific research paper „Living in Latvia” for the Latvian Economic Development Forum research paper competition that was issued by the Council of Higher Education of the Republic of Latvia on the ceremony hold the past 9th of November. The research paper explores the satisfaction and motivation of the international students that come to Latvia in order to make an exchange. In addition, it makes a comparison with the answers of the local students to extract conclusions and address recommendation to the higher education institutions. The paper was supervised by the Prof.Dr.Mihails Hazans of the University of Latvia that was also present on the act. In the same ceremony were also awarded different research papers on the economical field being the first prize up to 1.000 Lats
