The FOTONIKA-LV research centre at the University of Latvia is a member of EPIC – The European Photonics Industry Consortium and is supporting the EPIC initiative to organize the Photonics-open-day across Europe. Day of Photonics is an annual event that promotes “photonics” towards the general public.

Companies, research institutes, and organisations involved in photonics reach out to their communities to raise awareness about what is photonics and why it is important, and promote the role of their organisation in the photonics ecosystem and value chain. Photonics is a domain that links basic and applied research with innovation that drives economic development.  Photonics frames quantum sciences, space sciences and  related  technologies  where  Latvia,  Lithuania  and  Estonia  has  excellence  in science, technology development and possess a cluster of SMEs globally competitive in sophisticated niche markets such as SLR stations.   FOTONIKA-LV is one of the initiators of the International Lunar Decade whose purpose  is  to  achieve  breakthrough  to  sustainable  operations  in  space.  FOTONIKA-LV is a group of three scientific institutes of University of Latvia: - Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy
Institute of Astronomy
- Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics which have collaborated to increase a capacity to apply and participate in various Scientific projects, including FP7 and Horizon 2020 projects. PROGRAMME
