In the competition Ieva Aleksandrova translated texts from English into Latvian. “This was the second time I participated in the competition; in 2013 I tested my French language skills and received recognition, but this year I managed to win because I translated texts from English, and I was not worried at all,” says the winner. In this year’s competition twelve contestants in the English language group, two contestants in the German language group and two in the French language group participated in the final stage of the competition.
The competition jury consisted of 34 experienced language professionals: faculty members from nine Latvian universities, as well as Skrivanek Baltic foreign language editors, translators and language experts. The criteria for work evaluation included the compliance with the original text and language quality: grammar, punctuation and spelling, as well as linguistic register. The winner was awarded a valuable prize – an opportunity to develop her language skills using Skrivanek Baltic e-learning programme, as well as internship placement in the company.
