This week 24 students from 13 countries worked on short documentaries about various islands of Riga – Andrejsala, Kundziņsala, Ķīpsala, Lucavsala, Mangaļsala un Zaķusala. The films will be premiered at the Riga Summer School 2013 closing event in the University of Latvia on Saturday, and all interested people of Riga, especially those residing on islands, are invited.

The films feature various things that foreign students discovered on the islands of Riga, for instance, a film about Zaķusala will be a story about the past and present of the island through the lenses of a rabbit, and a film about Lucavsala will feature athlete Lāsma Liepa, who trains on the island and is internationally successful rower. Islands of Riga were the focus of Riga Summer School this year, which the University of Latvia organizes for foreign journalism, film and media students already for the third year in a row. 24 participants represented the following countries this year: Mexico, Turkey, Georgia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. The summer school is supported by the state research program “National Identity”, Live Riga, Tele2 and Pērnes Čipsi; the scholarships are being given by The State Education Development Agency.
