On 23 October, Assoc. Prof. Olga Ozoliņa representing the UL Faculty of Humanities Department of Romance was awarded the Order of Academic Palms (Ordre des Palmes académiques) of Chevalier grade for her contribution to French language teaching in Latvia.

The award was ceremonially handed over to Assoc. Prof. Olga Ozoliņa by Stefan Visconti, French Ambassador to Latvia, during a French teacher seminar. The Order of Academic Palms in its current form was introduced by the Decree of 4 October 1955, replacing the early Palmes académiques instituted in 1808 by Napoleon I to award university representatives.  In 1866, the scope of the award was widened to include major contributions to French national education and culture made by anyone, including foreigners. It was also made available to any French expatriates making major contributions to the expansion of French culture throughout the rest of the world. The Order has Chevalier, Officer and Commandeur grade.
