Short films by young Polish filmmakers will be screened in Latvia in March as a part Polish Film Festival “Short Waves”, organized by Poznan-based AD Arte Foundation.

The Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia in cooperation with the Embassy of Poland in Riga and Polish Culture Centre in Daugavpils will organize a satellite festival in Riga and Daugavpils. The screenings will be followed by discussion events about Polish cinema with the participation of film experts from Latvia and filmmakers from Poland. Festival screenings in Latvia are possible thanks to Weronika Drzewinska, a young Polish filmmaker, who attended Riga Summer School 2013, a program offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia. After her suggestion, the agreement was signed last week between the Rector of the University of Latvia Mārcis Auziņš and the Ambassador of Poland to Latvia Jerzy Marek Nowakowski about organizing the satellite festival in Riga and Daugavpils.
Central event of “Short Waves” film festival will take place in Poznan, Poland, from March 30 – April 6, 2014, featuring the newest short feature and documentary films by young Polish filmmakers. Besides Riga and Daugavpils, the festival satellite events and voting for films will be organized between March 14 - 30 in Paris, London, Dublin and other European cities. The film program and schedule of events will be available in mid-March. The quickest way of getting the information about the festival will be through Faculty of Social Sciences and Riga Summer School web and social media channels.
