The centre was established through combined effort of seven Latvian higher education institutions: the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Turiba University, Liepaja University, BA School of Business and Finance, Latvia University of Agriculture and Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration (RISEBA). The funding came from the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science.
The centre aims to provide people and educational institutions in South India with information about study and exchange opportunities in Latvia. The establishment of this initiative opens the door for more effective educational and research collaboration between the two countries in the future. The counselling services of the centre are to help professionals from Latvian and Indian higher education institutions make new connections and develop new partnerships. Besides, the governments of both countries are currently working towards a co-operation agreement in education and science.
Universities in Latvia hope that the centre will serve as a bridge between various Latvian and Indian higher education institutions, promote scientific collaboration and encourage Indian students to come and study in Latvia.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of leading Latvian and Indian higher education institutions.
