Exhibition Flavours of Italy will take place in the UL Botanical Garden from October 22 till November 23, and will offer its visitors an insight into Italian herbs, food recipes and inspiring books. A special programme Italian Saturday in the Botanical Garden for adults and children will be hosted on October 25, from 12:00 till 15:00.

The exhibition is organized within the Italian Language Week celebrated worldwide already for 14 years. This event introduces other nations to the traditional and modern Italian language, cuisine, customs, history, culture, and achievements. Visitors will have an opportunity to learn recipes of various delicious dishes, even those used at the time of Leonardo da Vinci. For kitchen enthusiasts there will even be da Vinci’s tips for good kitchen equipment. Not only cookbooks, but also literary works can be a source of inspiration for culinary pleasures. Sometimes a traditional Italian dish can even become a book’s protagonist.  On Saturday, October 25 a special programme Italian Saturday in the Botanical Garden will be held in the Palm House. Visitors will not only experience the true ambience of Italy, but also may win special prizes in the organised contests. The opening ceremony starts at 12:00 with the participation of UL Botanical Garden and Dante Alighieri society members. From 12:30 till 14:30 everyone is welcome to Bambino in giardino creative activities. Makeup, Italian fairy tale, applique work, bookmark, and herb workshops will be open to children and adults. The workshops will be led by the friend societies of Botanical Garden, members of Dante Alighieri society and representatives of Rasas Krāsas creative learning centre from Ikšķile. Jumava publishing house will offer thematic books about Italian food and herbs as well as latest books for very friendly prices. Guests will also have a chance to sample and purchase Italian food products. Flavours of Italy is organized in cooperation with the Latvian department of Dante Alighieri Society and the Library of the University of Latvia. The UL Botanical Garden is on 2 Kandavas Street, Riga. Opening hours 10:00 – 16:30 from October till March. Entrance fee: school children – EUR 1.00, pensioners and students – EUR 2.00, adults – EUR 3.00. An additional entrance fee is requested for visiting the Tropical Butterfly House: children 4-18 of age – EUR 3.00, adults and students – EUR 4.50, families (2 adults + 2 children) – EUR 14.00, pensioners and people with special needs – EUR 3.00.
