The University of Latvia (UL) continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading higher education institutions in the region. According to the latest QS World University Rankings 2026, UL ranks 89th in globally in terms of employability, the highest achievement among both Latvian and Baltic universities in this category. UL ranks first in Latvia in five categories assessed in the rankings.

The employability assessment of UL graduates graduate confirms the long-term strategy of UL committed to providing high-quality, labour market-relevant education that prepares students for successful careers. In 2024, the UL ranked 19th in Europe in this indicator in the QS World University Rankings: Europe.

Data provided by the Republic of Latvia Ministry of Education and Science regarding the employment of Latvian higher education institution alumni who graduated in 2021 and their income in 2022 show that the employability of graduates who completed the highest levels of studies at the University of Latvia was almost by six percentage points higher than the national average among other higher education institutions. Additional evidence of UL performance in the labour market is provided by the annual top of study programmes recommended by employers compiled by the Latvian Employers’ Confederation and the Internet portal prakse.lv: for the 8th consecutive year, the UL Bachelor’s programme Computer Science has been recognized as the highest-rated in the country, while UL as an educational institution has ranked 2nd in the country. In total, 15 UL study programmes have entered the TOP 100.

At the same time, UL retains its advanced position in the areas of sustainability, citation, academic reputation and international research network. Furthermore, as previously reported, the efforts of UL in the field of sustainability have been highly appreciated in The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings – THE Sustainability Ranking of world universities, where UL takes the 201st–300th place among more than 2300 higher education institutions worldwide.

The growth of UL is also recorded in the overall QS rankings – UL holds the high 801st–850th place, maintaining the upward trend of previous years, despite the record-breaking number of higher education institutions evaluated – almost 8500.

QS World University Rankings are amongst the most influential rankings of world universities, assessing the academic reputation of higher education institutions, citation, reputation among employers, employability outcomes, the social and environmental impact of universities as education and research centres, as well as the proportions of international students and academic staff and the international research network.
