Professor Indrikis Muiznieks elected as new University Rector

On June 4, 2015 Professor Indrikis Muiznieks was elected as the new rector of University of Latvia. The other candidate for the same position was Professor Juris Borzovs. 178 votes by the UL Constitutional Assembly participants were given to Professor Indrikis Muiznieks, 104 - against; 76 participants voted for Professor Juris Borzovs, 206 - voted against. The UL Constitutional Assembly has 300 members; 284 members attended the meeting and participated in the vote. The Rector is elected for the subsequent four years. The Rector’s elections are conducted by secret ballot. The candidate is considered elected if received more than a half of the votes from the UL Constitutional Assembly participants present and participating in the vote.
