The aim of the conference is to highlight the pivotal role of the University in knowledge creation, societal development and sustainable solutions, emphasizing the great impact of higher education and science on society, economy and national development.

With the new format of the University of Latvia conference, we are bringing the University’s contribution to society even closer, telling, explaining and discussing the latest and paramount topics of importance to Latvia’s development. I invite everyone to contribute their paper or participate in the principal interdisciplinary and scientifically intensive event of this year at UL!” emphasizes the UL Vice-Rector for Research, Assoc. Prof. Guntars Kitenbergs.
The nine thematic blocks of the conference, which simultaneously represent the University's priority research areas, are “Development of human capital, creation of a healthy, knowledge-based society”, “History, languages and the resilience of identity”, “Technological and digital development of the state”, “Strengthening global competitiveness”, “Increasing innovation capacity”, “Development of the state financial system and capital market. Tax system and its principles”, “Strengthening international and national security”, “Environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation” and “Efficiency of public administration”.
The conference plenary sessions and more than 60 panel sessions will encompass the key areas of research and innovation in natural sciences and technologies, humanities, social sciences, as well as medical and health sciences, ensuring a diverse, interdisciplinary and content-rich programme that will promote multidisciplinary dialogue on current issues of societal and national development.
The conference opening ceremony – the Academic Plenary Session – will take place on 14 April at the UL House of Science. The plenary session will actualize the issues that are relevant to the benefit brought by scientific research results to society, the economy and policy-making, prompting a discussion about the responsibility of universities, the quality of research and its contribution to long-term development.
In order to present research results at the conference, discuss current issues of science and societal development, as well as share the latest ideas and insights, researchers and students are invited to register by 2 March. For the conference attendees, registration for visiting the conference both in person and online is open until 11 April.
