On July 7, 2020, the first MODEST (Modernization of Doctoral Education in Science and Improvement of Teaching Methodologies) meeting of doctoral students' network took place.

This event was organized by MODEST project manager Inga Šķendere representing University of Latvia (grand holder), Irina Obukhova, MODEST scientific coordinator, MIPT (Russia)  and Marek Frankowicz MODEST QA leader, Jagiellonian University (Poland).   The  meeting was attended by 40 PhD students and academic staff  from 14 universities of Latvia, Poland, Great Britain, Russia, Armenia, and Belarus.

During the meeting Inga Skendere introduced doctoral students with  the potential activities of the MODEST project and general ideas for  doctoral  student' network, while Dr.  Marek Frankowicz presented  to the participants  his personal experience from doctoral studies, as well as outlined in more detail the vision of the doctoral student network.

The participants of the meeting - doctoral students introduced themselves, the objectives  of   the doctoral thesis and their expectation of the MODEST project. They support the idea of  creation  MODEST doctoral student' network and  forming  of initiative group for development network strategy and content.

Also they  discussed both their experience in doctoral studies and the impact of COVID-19 on the learning process.

During the meeting, it was proposed to hold a seminar “Managing or dealing with stress?”. In order not only to prevent the negative effects of stress, but also to use it as a positive driver for further achievements. The stress management seminar will take place on July 16 and further information will be available on the MODEST project website: www.emodest.eu.

The Erasmus+ MODEST project aims at modernization of doctoral education in Science in European countries and Armenia, Belarus, and Russia. A wider project objective is to enhance cooperation capacities of Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) of Partner Countries in the field of Doctoral Studies within European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and European Research Area (ERA).
