University of Latvia Academic Centre House of Science has taken the second place in the category “New Public Building”.

The University of Latvia Academic Centre House of Science shares the second place in this competition with Ādaži Primary School.

The 3rd place was awarded to the multifunctional centre “Akropole”, Māris Štrombergs BMX track “Valmiera” and “Business Garden Riga” in Mārupe. The 1st place in the category “New Public Building” was won by the concert hall “Latvija” and Ventspils Music School. The grand prize was awarded to the venue for culture “Hanzas perons”.

The House of Science at the University of Latvia Academic Centre opened its doors on January 28, 2019. The study and research directions of the exact, medical and life sciences of the University of Latvia are now concentrated in a single location – the House of Science, thus promoting the synergy of study and research fields. The UL House of Science has 8 above-ground floors and 1 underground floor. It houses 2 faculties (Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry, Faculty of Medicine), 6 institutes (Astronomy; Geodesy and Geoinformatics; Physics; Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy; Mechanics of Materials; Cardiology and Regenerative Medicine). Institute), as well as a medical museum and an extensive library.

The University of Latvia Academic Centre constitutes a modern environment where talent, entrepreneurship and cooperation flourish. The new buildings provide an opportunity for students and academic staff to conduct world-class research.

The “Best Building of the Year in Latvia 2019” was the 22nd event of the series with a jury of 50 professionals evaluating 90 buildings completed last year.
