The University of Latvia (UL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) on cooperation in the field of quantum information science. The agreement marks a long-term partnership between the universities in the development of quantum research, education, and innovation.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding took place within the framework of the annual meeting of the UCPH Quantum Hub. UL was represented by Vice-Rector for Research Assoc. Prof. Guntars Kitenbergs, who, in a symbolic moment, met with theUCPH Prorector for Research Eva Hoffmann and Dean of Science Bo Jellesmark Thorsen, and the Ambassador of Latvia to Denmark Inga Skujiņa.

The signed memorandum confirms the commitment of both universities to develop a globally competitive environment for quantum research and education, as well as to strengthen cooperation within the quantum science ecosystem.

The Memorandum provides for collaboration in quantum information science and quantum technologies, including quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing, and quantum software development. It establishes a structured framework for joint research projects, academic mobility, development of study programmes, as well as the organisation of joint courses, summer schools, and scientific events.

Particular attention will be given to doctoral and master’s level education, including co-supervision of students and researchers, as well as coordinated applications for international research funding calls. The agreement also foresees the use of infrastructure and expertise from both institutions, fostering UL and the UCPH Quantum Hub synergy.
