Programming and computer network administration - first level professional higher education study programme

The aim of the study programme is to train specialists capable of working in the information and communication technology industry within 2.5 years, who are ready to learn about new technologies in a rapidly changing environment and can participate in the development of applications and information systems or computer networks and in the administration of computer systems.

At the end of the study programme, graduates obtain a 1st level professional higher education diploma and qualification “Programmer” or “Computer Systems and Computer Network Administrator”.

The programme provides for traineeships in an IT organisation: international enterprise, public administration, start-up, etc.

After obtaining a diploma and a professional qualification, it is possible to continue studies without a competition in the 6th semester of the UL bachelor's study programme “Computer Science”.

 

Director of the study programme:

The programme will require: programming, computer structure and computer networks, mathematics, data structures, algorithms, databases, operating systems, etc.

After graduating the study programme, students have very wide opportunities to find a job in their speciality, because IT specialists are in demand in the labour market both in Latvia and abroad.

Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to continue their studies without a competition in the 6th semester of the UL bachelor's study programme “Computer Science”.

Full-time in-classroom studies: 2.5 years (5 semesters)

General Provisions

Secondary education

Competition criteria for persons who have acquired secondary education since 2004:

CE in Latvian
CE in Mathematics*
CE in English or CE in French or CE in German
Average score of all CE passed by the person

* For persons who have completed secondary education before 2008, the centralised examination in mathematics may be replaced by the average mark in mathematics indicated in the secondary education document (or the average mark in algebra and geometry)

Competition criteria for persons who have completed secondary education before 2004 (excluding), as well as for persons who have acquired secondary education abroad or for persons with special needs:

average mark in Latvian Language and Literature
average mark in Mathematics (or average mark in algebra and geometry)
average mark in mandatory subjects

Advantages: For the 1st - 3rd degree winners in National or international Olympiads of Mathematics and Informatics (programming) of 2022 and 2023 or for the 1st - 3rd degree winners in National student SRW conference in Computer Science and Informatics or Mathematics in 2022 and 2023; for the 1st - 3rd place winners of the Open Mathematical Olympiad in 2022 and 2023.
