Support for students:

  • Continuing Studies at the University of Latvia
    Ukrainian refugees who wish to continue their studies at the University of Latvia, as well as prospective international students from Ukraine, are invited to contact the International Students Unit:

  • Ukrainian students and researchers may continue their studies and research in Latvia and may be eligible for state-funded scholarships and paid internships. Further information is available at: https://www.viaa.gov.lv/en/ukraine-latvia
    Applications for the state support mechanism for civilians of Ukraine must be submitted through Latvian higher education or research institutions. Individual applications are not accepted.
  • Free Accommodation for Ukrainian Refugees
    The University of Latvia offers free accommodation for Ukrainian refugees.

  • Tuition Fee Waiver for Ukrainian Citizens
    During the Autumn Semester of the 2026/202, University of Latvia students who are Ukrainian citizens and who have left Ukraine or are unable to return due to the armed conflict caused by the Russian Federation are eligible for a 100% tuition fee waiver. The tuition fee waiver does not apply to Ukrainian citizens who have obtained permanent residence in Latvia.

Psychological counselling for UL students and staff:

  • UL psychologist Līga Valinka offers free of charge counselling.
    To schedule an appointment please write an e-mail to psihologs@lu.lv or call (+371) 67034392
    Consultations are available both in-person (at Raiņa bulvāris 19, room 107), and online. Currently, priority registration is ensured for Ukrainian citizens.

    Tuesday: 9:00–16:00
    Wednesday: 9:00–16:00
    Additionally, appointments may be scheduled on Thursdays.

  • Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law of UL provides free of charge legal assistance to Ukrainian refugees.

  • UL Students’ Council offers students an opportunity to participate in various social events and activities, as well as to join the WhatsApp group chat of the UA community at UL.
