The University of Latvia accepts exchange students via several programmes and agreements, including: ERASMUS+, Utrecht Network (MAUI, AEN), ISEP, bilateral agreements and agreements between countries.
The academic year is divided in two semesters:
Autumn semester: September–January
Spring semester: February–June
Academic calendar
Students wishing to participate in an exchange programme at the University of Latvia (UL) must first be officially nominated by their home university.
Nomination deadlines:
April 15th for autumn semester/ full academic year
October 15th for spring semester
After nomination, exchange students must complete the online application, which opens approx. one month before the application deadline.
Application deadlines:
15 May for the autumn semester or full academic year
15 November for the spring semester
Application review and Acceptance:
Each application is considered individually by the relevant UL faculty. The decision is based on the completed application, supporting documents, and selected courses. Selection results are announced approx. 1.5 months after the application deadline.

The following documents must be submitted online:
- Copy of passport or ID
- Copy of the latest Transcript of Records (in English)
- Proof of English-language proficiency of at least B1 level (depends on the faculty, please, see below)
- Learning Agreement signed by all parties.
