Baldone Schmidt Telescope, a unique device with a wide field of view, the largest in the Baltics and the 12th largest telescope in the world, is located near the resort town of Baldone. The telescope ienables both direct and spectral observations of the celestial bodies. The Baldone Astrophysical Observatory is the only professional observatory in Latvia carrying out optical range observations.

The main research directions: spectrophotometric studies of carbon stars, studies of small Solar System bodies, nonstationary processes in stars, processing of Schmidt digital telescope plates’ digital images.
