Councils of higher education institutions are a new establishment of higher education institution internal management, which is created in accordance with amendments to the Law on Higher Education Institutions, which were approved by the Saeima in June 2021. A higher education institution council is a collegial supreme decision-making body responsible for the sustainable development, strategic and financial supervision of the higher education institution. The council must also ensure the operation of the state higher education institution in accordance with the goals defined in its development strategy.
