Course
The course “Providing of Legal Advice” is orientated to obtain practical skills through service of legal advice for low-income persons. The aim of the study course is to give students the opportunity to learn practical skills in the supervision of qualified law practitioners, developing the skills and legal thinking necessary for the work of a lawyer. Course tasks: 1) to provide assistance to low-income persons within the The Legal Aid and Assistance Centre of the UL Law Faculty (JPPC or Legal Clinic). It is the student's responsibility to find a solution and to provide a legal opinion to the client after having agreed it with the supervising attorney invited by the Center. Thus students learn to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills. 2) within the framework of the cooperation of The Legal Aid and Assistance Centre (JPPC) and the portal ManaBalss.lv. - to provide legal opinions or consultations regarding the initiatives registered in the collective application portal

How to apply for exchange studies within bilateral/network cooperation agreements? The selection of the candidates take place at the beginning of each study semester and is organised by the international coordinator of the respective faculty . (Exception: Department of Asian studies select their candidates individually). Candidate shall address to the Mobility Division of the Student Services Department with an already approved and signed nomination form issued by the respective faculty, which is accordingly forwarded to the chosen partner university/network. Student nomination does not guarantee a study exchange place in the chosen partner university/network. For successful processing of application procedure in partner university/network, student shall follow all required procedures and set deadlines. Important! Application requirements for exchange studies abroad may differ from university to university. Majority of bilateral/network cooperation agreements do not foresee

Solvita Olsena is a health law expert with long experience both in academia and in legal practice. She is an associate professor of public health and law at the Medical Faculty, the University of Latvia, where she teaches and writes in health law. Her academic interests and research topics include a human rights approach to health and rights to health, patients’ rights and patient safety, mental health law and protection of patients with limited capacity, medical data protection and eHealth. She is a sworn advocate and a member of the Latvian Collegium of Sworn Advocates. She holds an M.D. from the Latvian Medical Academy, a J.D and Dr.iur. from the University of Latvia. She is a Member of the Council of Europe anti-torture Committee (CPT) in respect to Latvia. The aim of the course “Plant molecular genetics” is to provide the master of biology programme students of the Faculty of Biology with a deeper insight into modern plant genetics and biotechnology. The course will emphasize the role of plants as model organisms to understand fundamental laws and mechanisms in genetics and evolution. Molecular marker technologies for basic research and plant breeding will be introduced. Students will get acquainted with the latest achievements in plant molecular genetics and biotechnology, including methods for constructing transgenic (genetically modified) plants. Role of GM plants in basic research and agriculture will be discussed with emphasis on GMO regulations in European Union and Latvia.

The course is designed to develop students oral and written English skills in the field of business management The tasks of the course are: 1. to prepare students for oral and written business communication in an unternational environment. 2. to help students acquire terminology related to the chosen speciality. The course covers such topics as legal forms of organization, raising finance, financial stability, and basic laws of marketing. Students discuss problems of international marketing and commerce as well as intercultural communication issues.The skills and terminology acquired during the lessons are complemented by individual reading and writing academic annotations on professional topics. Students knowledge and skills are assessed with the help of three tests and a presentation about international commerce. The course has been designed for all speciality students of the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics. The language of instruction-is English.

Practical Training in Financial Accounting

The aim of the practice is to strengthen theoretical knowledge acquired in the training process in financial accounting, so that practical skills can be gained in recording and collecting information on business transactions, as well as to gain a realistic picture of the annual accounts and the establishment of tax reports binding on the company. The tasks to be performed for the achievement of the objective shall be detailed in the by-law of practice; in general case, the main tasks shall be related to the determination of the procedures for the registration of specific inventory objects in the internship and the conformity assessment thereof in relation to the requirements of regulatory enactments. The practice rules are available on the faculty website in the section for Students - Methodological instructions.
