Administrative and Legal Practice
Course
Administrative and Legal Praxis allow students to secure and extend their theoretical knowledge in the field of administrative law, and it is a part of the unified process of studies. The main goal of the praxis is to provide an opportunity to gain practical skills in administrative law enforcement and to deepen understanding of public administration organization and activity. The main tasks of the internship are to ensure that the student understands the normative acts that regulate the legal protection activity characteristic of the practice place, acquire the skills of a lawyer, be able to independently develop the documents of the legal sphere corresponding to the specifics (functions) of the practice place, acquire skills in the work of a lawyer with persons in administrative law field. Practice organization issues are defined in the Practice Regulations of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia and the specific practice program available on the e-learning site

The procedures for evaluating ethical aspects of studies conducted by students (except for resident and doctoral students) shall be determined by the faculty of the LU. If necessary, the LU Faculty Council shall approve the by-law and composition of the study ethics committee for evaluation of student studies. Civil law internship
Course
Civil law internship is the stage of consolidation, deepening and approbation of theoretical knowledge acquired previously in the field of students' civil sciences. The duration of the practice is 9 weeks and it is organized in the first semester of the studies. The main tasks of the internship are to ensure that the student understands the normative acts that regulate the legal protection activity characteristic of the practice place, acquire the skills of a lawyer, be able to independently develop the documents of the legal sphere corresponding to the specifics (functions) of the practice place, acquire skills in the work of a lawyer with persons in civil law field. Practice organization issues are defined in the Practice Regulations of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia and the specific practice program available on the e-learning site.

The course is designed to develop students oral and written English skills in the field of business management The tasks of the course are: 1. to prepare students for oral and written business communication in an unternational environment. 2. to help students acquire terminology related to the chosen speciality. The course covers such topics as legal forms of organization, raising finance, financial stability, and basic laws of marketing. Students discuss problems of international marketing and commerce as well as intercultural communication issues.The skills and terminology acquired during the lessons are complemented by individual reading and writing academic annotations on professional topics. Students knowledge and skills are assessed with the help of three tests and a presentation about international commerce. The course has been designed for all speciality students of the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics. The language of instruction-is English.

The aim in preparing the Master’s thesis is to strengthen theoretical knowledge and academic skills in the area of the law, developing them in accordance with the requirements of the master’s degree study programme, also preparing the student for scholarly research work and for pursuit of a doctorate. The Master’s thesis satisfies the requirements of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia vis-à-vis the successful defence of the thesis, including the preparation of a working plan, identification of the necessary sources of information, and the writing, editing and defending of the thesis.
