Latvian Literature in Modern Learning in Vocation Education

The aim of the course is to give listeners an opportunity to develop their understanding about the basic questions of literature theory, history and didactics, about the development process of Latvian literature as well as with life and creative work of certain writers, to develop the analytical skills through the analysis of the literary works, to learn to evaluate problems that are connected with the acquisition of literature at teaching learning process in professional educational programs.

The aim of the course is to enable students to develop the awareness of the basic issues of the theory of folkloristic, the role of folklore in the Latvian cultural process and the relationship with contemporary cultural phenomena, and to update the ethical aesthetic values of folklore in the context of school teaching and learning process. The objectives of the study course 1. To improve students' awareness of Latvian folklore types, genres, specifics, classification, research approaches, and value system in the context of school teaching and learning process. 2. To develop analytical skills in the process of analysis of poetic folklore in the context of school teaching and learning process. 3. Link theoretical knowledge to school teaching practices.
The language of instruction is Latvian.

The study course is designed to acquaint the Latvian language and literature teachers with the experience that has been accumulated in the contemporary linguistics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics and linguo-didactics regarding the interrelations between the language and the speech, the issues of ethnolinguistics and the Latvian ethnogenesis, the particularity of developing a functional grammar teaching content, as well as applying communicative and culturological approach in language teaching, about the possibilities of usage of the latest opinions in mastering the Latvian language in a vocational education institution in monolingual and bilingual audiences.

The summer school, which took place from July 30 to August 12, was attended by participants with very good knowledge of Latvian at B1 level and little knowledge of Latvian at A1 level. Some participants have started learning Latvian themselves, while others have been offered the opportunity to study Latvian at their universities. During the summer school, the participants not only studied the Latvian language, but also Latvian culture, history, politics, art and folklore, as well as got to know Latvian cities and museums via interactive excursions. "This year's UL’s Latvian Language and Culture Summer School was a great challenge for all of us, because it took place online. I am infinitely grateful for all this year's students, including not only the younger ones but also the older generation. I still admire their patience, perseverance and the love they dedicate to getting to know our nation, land and language, ”says
