The course aims at surveying the historical periods of Russian language contacts in Latvia, as well as the Russian language in modern-day Latvia. The course analyses the fundamentals of contact linguistics. Likewise, the course characterises the common and distinctive features of both languages in the context of contrastive grammar of Russian and Latvian. Moreover, it focuses on the key issues in the field of two languages contacts from the perspective of historical linguistics and translation. The objectives of the course: 1. to introduce students to the concepts and principles of contact linguistics. 2. to develop skills required for the analysis of language from the perspective of contrastive linguistics and contact linguistics. The language of instruction is Russian.

Language contact is a very multifaceted phenomenon, characterised not only by linguistic but also by sociolinguistic aspects. The course offers an insight into national language policy-making while analysing its impact and interpretation in today's bilingual regions of Spain. The aim of the course is to get an idea of the processes related with the language contact and language policy in Spain, by considering the events in both linguistic and sociolinguistic and diachronic contexts. Objectives •to get acquainted with the diversity of linguistic interaction processes and their consequences; •to master the main theoretical approaches to the analysis of interaction processes; •to strengthen the image of language policy and its role in modern society; Language of instruction: Spanish
