Language Contacts and Language Policy in Italy

Course

The study course examines the sociolinguistic dynamics in Italy and the situation of the Italian language outside Italy. The aim of the course is to analyze the main aspects of language contacts, looking at it in a linguistic, political and historical context. Students will also be given an insight into the national language policy by analysing its impact in Italian bilingual regions. The objectives of the study course: 1. to reflect the language situation in Italy; 2. to study such theoretical concepts as language, dialect, multilingualism, bilingualism and diglossia; 3. to deepen the knowledge of linguistic and dialect diversity and the sociolinguistic situation in the country's bilingual areas; 4. to describe the situation of linguistic minorities, deepening the aspects related to minority. languages and the phenomenon of immigration; 5. to reflect the situation of the Italian language in the world. The course is delivered in Italian.

Contact lenses

Course

Study course provides students with basic knowledge of the history of contact lenses, contact lens materials, design, optical properties, contact lens maintenance, wearing schedules, the impact of contact lens on the physiology of posterior eye structures. Students are introduced to the procedure and strategies of contact lens fitting in case of different refractive defects.

The aim of the study course is to provide students with knowledge and to develop the skills in contact lens optical principles, manufacture and application, to provide knowledge about contact lens materials, designs, properties and to develop skills in contact lens correction principles.

The objectives of the study course are the following:

to provide knowledge about contact lens materials, types, designs and basic correction principles;
to provide skills on contact lens application, removal and cleaning procedures, as well as patient education in safe contact lens use;
to teach basic contact lens fitting principles and methods
to provide knowledge on the use of contact lenses in specific cases.

Languages of instruction are: Latvian and English.
