Master Thesis

The aim of the course is to provide independent research in a chosen sub-discipline of physics under the supervision of a supervisor. It consists of two parts: Master Thesis in Physics I (4 credits) Master Thesis in Physics II (16 credits) This course ends with the defense of a master's thesis. Tasks of the course are: 1. To develop students' skills and competence necessary for independent research work, including those related to the planning of scientific work; 2. To develop students' ability to analyzse the results of their own research and that of others; 3. To improve students' communication skills by presenting the results of their research. Languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

The study course "Master thesis II" is a continuation of study course "Master thesis I". Master’s Thesis is self-dependent research. The aim in preparing the Master’s thesis is to strengthen theoretical knowledge and academic skills in the area of the law, developing them in accordance with the requirements of the master’s degree study programme, also preparing the student for scholarly research work and for pursuit of a doctorate. The Master’s thesis satisfies the requirements of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia vis-à-vis the successful defence of the thesis, including the preparation of a working plan, identification of the necessary sources of information, and the writing, editing and defending of the thesis.

The aim of the master's thesis is to prove the ability to independently apply theoretical knowledge, academic skills and abilities in accordance with the requirements of the master's study program. Master's thesis is an independent research work with an original solution of a topical theoretical / practical problem under the guidance of a scientific supervisor. Tasks of master's thesis development: to summarize, systematize, deepen and strengthen the acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills; to use empirical research methods in the research, in accordance with the research question and / or hypothesis, and the developed research design; to perform processing, analysis and interpretation of the obtained data. The Master's thesis has developed theoretical generalizations and formulated substantiated proposals, put forward and proved hypothesis, studied the regularities and correlations of factor influence, thus promoting the Master's student to learn to maintain problem

The aim of the Master thesis in biology is to provide a substantial scientific contribution in one of the subfields of biological sciences, and is carried out largely independently by a student under qualified supervision of a scientist. Master thesis attests to the ability of a student to collect, organize, analyze and represent novel scientific findings in biology. Upon successul completion of the master in biology study programme and the defence of master thesis students are awarded academic degree of the master of natural sciences in biology. Course Tasks: 1. developing students' ability to carry out scientific research independently; 2. developing the ability of students to interpret the results of own and other studies; 3. improving students' skills to present their research results. Master thesis is written and defended in Latvian.
