This is a distributed course designed to develop and defend a Master's thesis. It consists of 3 study courses: Master thesis I The course is the first stage in the development of the master's thesis. During the course, students get acquainted with the requirements of the master's thesis, formulate the theme of the master's thesis, formulate the research problem and question and / or set the research hypothesis in accordance with the planned design of the research. Based on the analysis of scientific literature, as a result of the course students develop a master's thesis project. Master thesis II The course is second stage in the development of the master's thesis. Within the framework of the course students develop a theoretical ground for master's thesis research, defend it and prepare research methods. Special attention is paid to the selection of relevant scientific literature, the principles and style of scientific writing, and the presentation of the scientific text

The aim of the master's thesis is to strengthen the theoretical knowledge, academic skills and abilities of international economics, economic diplomacy and the interdisciplinary problems of the European Union in accordance with the requirements of the master's study program. Master's thesis is an independent research work with an original solution of a topical theoretical / key problem under the supervision of a scientific supervisor. Tasks of master's thesis development: to summarize, systematize, deepen and strengthen the acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills; to develop theoretical generalizations and formulate reasonable proposals; to put forward and prove a hypothesis; to study the correlations of regularities and factor influence; learn to keep problem solving motivation and creativity. The aim of the study course is to provide students with knowledge and skills in conducting, developing, presenting and defending independent research work. The Master's thesis is a mandatory requirement in the final phase of the Professional Master's study program "Optometry". The study course – 20 CP (6 CP "Introduction to the Master's Thesis" and 14 CP "Master Thesis") is a part of the study program. Master's thesis is a student's individual research in one of the fields of visual science. The student chooses either the topic proposed by the readers or suggests his/her own topic presenting the arguments for his/her choice and the possibility of its elaboration. All topics of Master's theses are approved at the meeting of Optometry and Visual Science Department.
The objectives of the study course are the following:
  • to conduct independent research under the guidance of a supervisor;

Master's thesis is an independent research work which characterizing the results of the student's independent research. The aim of the master's thesis is to demonstrate the theoretical and practical training of the student to carry out independently science research work on the problematic aspects of accounting, auditing or taxes in the context of the economy and business field and their solutions. Master's thesis tasks are: 1. to carry out an in-depth study of an analytical nature on an ongoing scientific, methodological or practical problem; 2. developing and defending sound proposals to address identified challenges. The language of instruction is Latvian.

The Master's thesis is a compulsory final examination of the Communication Science Master's Degree Program in Communication Science of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia, which reflects the Master's candidate's knowledge in communication theories, ability to carry out research and research methodology. The aim of the development of master's thesis is to create an independent (original) research that contains elements of novelty. Master's thesis demonstrates the student's ability (a) to carry out research by applying the theoretical knowledge in communication sciences he/she has acquired in the courses of study, (b) to apply the communication research methods professionally, to collect and systematize the facts/data obtained, (c) to work with academic literature (sources) independently, (d) to state and prove the problem to be researched, to prove its topicality and efficiency, (e) to present the research in a literary language and formulate the conclusions

Master's thesis is an independently conducted study by a student, demonstrating the skills of research and analytical work, the skills to identify and analyse a social problem, the skills to integrate theory, research methods and specialised problem-solving skills to carry out research activities and to create new knowledge that contributes to professional and academic knowledge in sociology.
