Students applying for the Master of Science degree in environmental protection prepare and publicly defend a master's thesis in the chosen subfield of environmental science. The master's thesis is developed at the Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences of the LU, in other organizations or independently under the supervision of a doctor of sciences. The master's thesis must meet the requirements set by the University of Latvia, Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences. Based on the results of the defense of the master's thesis, the master's final examination commission awards the natural sciences master's degree in geography, and the commission's decision is approved by the LU ĐZZF Council. The work must be based on the author's independent research, must contain the signs of scientific novelty, and in terms of structure and content must meet the requirements accepted in the Earth and environmental sciences for the preparation of scientific publications. The Master thesis is the final step of the Master program in chemistry. It is scientific research on an actual topic in one of the chemistry subdivisions. The aim of Master thesis is to apply and expand the previous gained theoretical and practical knowledge, methodological and organizational skills to carrying out the research. Master thesis is worked out in the research groups of the Faculty of chemistry or in other science institutes, or in close cooperation with industry. The results of research have to contain elements of novelty or have to be important for practical application. Master thesis is prepared in a written form and it contains the following chapters: introduction, literature review, materials and methods, experimental part, results description and analyses, conclusions and a list of literature. The research work carried out and presented accordingly to requirements of academic standards for scientific articles in chemistry. Master thesis is defended in the open

The aim of the study course is to provide master’s level humanities students with deeper knowledge and understanding of religious and philosophical teachings of China, Tibet and Japan, with a focus on the study and analysis of original works (their translations). The objectives of the course: 1. to deepen students' knowledge about Mahayana Buddhist ideas and their differences in East Asian countries; 2. to introduce students to Vajrayana Buddhism and Tibetan Bon religion; 3. to present and to analyze moral, ethical, religious and philosophical teachings of Japan (Japanese Buddhism, Shintoism, etc.); 4. to analyze and to explain the core meaning of the original texts and their commentaries. Languages of instruction: Latvian and English.
