LELCA (Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church Abroad) through its "Fund for Tomorrow"( Rītdienas fonds ) (1972) has supported the staff of UL Faculty of Theology from the beginning of its existence, and since the 2010/2011 academic year, it has started to grant scholarships to the students of theology. In the period from 2010 to 2014, LELCA "Fund for Tomorrow" granted scholarships with the aim to support the young scholars of UL Faculty of Theology, giving preference to those students who wished to devote their lives to service in the Latvian Lutheran parishes. The scholarship was dedicated to the memory of Dean Emeritus Uldis Cepure. Dean Uldis Cepure was born in 1935 in Riga. He finished primary school in Germany and secondary school in Nebraska, USA, where he studied theology and obtained a degree of Master of Divinity in 1960. U.Cepure began to serve as a pastor in the parishes of Americans, the descendants of German and Swedish immigrants, who elected him as Dean in South Dakota

In the 2010/2011 academic year, the tradition of Pharmacy Scholarships was continued by granting support to two students: Nelda Lencberga and Evija Sidorova, each receiving a Pharmacy Scholarship in the amount of EUR 1 280per year. In the 2013/2014 academic year, the Excellence Scholarships (EUR 1 000each) were granted to three students: Inga Kozlovska, Sanita Magone, Velta Korkliša. In the 2015/2016 academic year, Mēness Aptiekagranted the total amount ofEUR 46200for Mēness Aptieka’s Internship Scholarships and Mēness Aptieka’s Study Scholarships to be distributed to the Master’s Programme "Pharmacy" firstandsecond-year students. In the 2017/2018 academic year, Mēness Aptieka’s Internship Scholarship was granted in the amount ofEUR 3 280. We greatly appreciate the generous support to education and development!

LU komunikācijas un inovācijas departaments From July 12 to July 25, the University of Latvia organizes the Latvian Language and Culture Summer School for diaspora youth with more than 25 participants from all over the world. The summer school is attended by participantsaged 17-35 from Brazil, France, Canada, Chile, Great Britain, Australia and the United States. Participants' knowledge of Latvian is at different levels, without prior knowledge of Latvian to very good knowledge at B1 level. Some participants decide to study the Latvian languge in these courses for another round in the next language level. They hope that in 2023 they will be able to study in live in Riga. For two weeks, Latvian language enthusiasts can expect lessons, various workshops, as well as virtual excursions and seminars. In the 1930s, the Arnolds Krēsliņš had been the mayor of Rūjiena. Just like thousands of other Latvians in 1944, the family joined the refugees and left for Austria and Germany. After four years spent in Esslingen’s displaced persons’ (DP) camp, in 1949, the family went to the USA and settled in the state of New Jersey. Kaspars grew up in the Latvian community and took an active part in several Latvian organizations – American Latvian Association (ALA), Latvian Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Washington, Latvian Organizations in Washington (LOV), and in student corporation "Lettgallia".
