The purpose of the course is to promote understanding of specifics and symbolism of Eastern religious art and architecture; to develop skills in interdisciplinary (Religious Studies/Art Studies) research. The tasks of the course are: - to acquaint students with the religious meaning and symbolism, as well as with the main trends and development stages of art and architecture in India, China, Japan, Tibet, Southeast Asia and Islam areas; - to pay special attention to the world view and religious ideas in order to give a profound understanding of how they manifest in visual and auditive form; to develop skills in recognition and evaluating the works of art. The language of instruction is Latvian.

The course examines the development of Italian art and literature in a chronological order in order to provide students with basic knowledge of the development phases of literature and art and of the interrelationships and interconnections between the two fields. The aim of the course is to provide students with skills in the literature analysis and to broaden the horizons in the analysis of Italian artistic and literary phenomena. The course uses a direct textual approach, as well as audiovisual materials selected according to the topic. Students are offered to enhance the understanding of the most important issues of this course in the form of discussions. The analysis of the texts is performed in accordance with the students' linguistic competences, at the same time paying attention to the enrichment of the Italian vocabulary. The aim of the course is to introduce students to the problems of philosophy of art. The course introduces the main concepts of philosophy of art that people encounter on a daily basis. Tasks of the study course: 1. To explain general views on specific issues of philosophy of art; 2. To understand the place and role of art philosophy in the cultural system in general and in creative work in particular; 3. To reveal the value of the philosophy of art in the structure of human activity; 4. To emphasize the role of aesthetic phenomena in the formation of human general and humanitarian culture. The course aim is to teach students the systems thinking art as well to develop their skills to define and predict rising contradictions. Students are taught to define possible resources systemically and to be able to use them for the decision of art problems, to descry and apply in practice regularity of the arts development in order to systemic and integrated assessment of the state of art systems as well as for scientifically proved predictions of the further development of ones. The course shows basic principles of the research work in the arts.
