The doctoral study program "Natural Sciences: Biology" ensures the acquisition of scientific qualifications in the subfields of biological science.

The aim of the study program is to prepare highly qualified specialists in one of the sub-branches of biology, giving doctoral students in-depth knowledge and skills necessary for independent academic and scientific-research work. Scientific institutes are also involved in the provision of the doctoral study program in close cooperation with the Faculty of Biology.

   

Acting study programme director

The Doctor of Biology study program offers studies in the following sub-fields of biology:

  • plant physiology;
  • biotechnology;
  • botany;
  • ecology;
  • genetics;
  • human and animal physiology;
  • hydrobiology/hydroecology;
  • microbiology;
  • molecular/cellular biology
  • zoology

During the doctoral studies, the doctoral exams must be passed according to the chosen biology subfield, specialty and foreign language. A doctoral thesis must be developed according to the chosen research topic.

 

 

Graduates of the program can work in universities, research institutes, various nature protection institutions, company laboratories related to biotechnology, microbiology and molecular biology, environmental companies, breeding and testing stations, medical-veterinary medical institutions, museums, non-governmental organizations. It is also possible to pursue postdoctoral research projects abroad.

Master's degree in biology, chemistry, forestry, agriculture, as well as a professional doctor's degree or a higher education diploma corresponding to the mentioned degrees.
