Study location: Riga
The aim of the study program is to prepare students for work in pharmaceutical companies and for continuing education in the doctoral study program. To provide students with appropriate theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the sub-fields of pharmaceutical science and related fields of science, as well as to prepare for independent research and successful development and defense of a master's thesis.
The graduate of the program will have acquired theoretical and practical knowledge about medicines and substances used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, knowledge in pharmaceutical technology, quality control and correct storage of medicines. The graduate will be able to provide advice on the use of medicines and know the law governing the pharmaceutical industry.

Students acquire knowledge in the following areas:
- Preparation of pharmaceutical forms of medicines;
- Drug manufacturing and quality control;
- Drug testing in pharmaceutical testing laboratories;
- Safe, effective, and quality-compliant preparation, testing, storage, and distribution of medicines in community and hospital pharmacies, wholesale pharmaceutical companies, and pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises;
- Providing consultations on medicines and their use;
- Pharmacy management and the basics of entrepreneurship.
The course content is distributed across disciplines as follows:
Chemistry – 27%, Pharmaceutical sciences – 35%, Biology/Medicine – 20%, Social pharmacy and economics – 15.5%, and Pharmaceutical legislation and professional ethics – 2.5%.
At the end of the programme, students must complete a Master’s thesis.
The acquired Master’s degree in Health Sciences in Pharmacy certifies that the graduate has obtained the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge about medicines and substances used in drug manufacturing, pharmaceutical technology and quality control, drug use, and pharmaceutical legislation. The graduate is qualified to begin professional practice as a pharmacist.
Graduates may continue their studies at the doctoral level.
Previous Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences in Pharmacy or a second-level professional higher education degree in Pharmacy.
