The Faculty of Lawmaintains close cooperation with employers and legal professional organisationsin organising conferencesand other projects. Representativesfrom the Facultyparticipate in various activities within these organisations,such as working with the Ministry of Justice’s permanent working groupsto draft or amend legislative acts. To consolidate professional skills and knowledge the Professional Master’s programme includes an internship at: courts of all levels, including the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court the public prosecutor’s office the national police theSaeima (Latvian Parliament) state institutions local authorities law firms notaries bailiffs businesses and public organisations
In the 2017 competition, the winners were Kristiāna Bernāne, Anatolijs Orehovs, and Oskars Kulmanis, students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Latvia. The award for Best Orator was given to Linards Birznieks, while the participants recognized Ivonna Ādamsoni-Struža, a judge at the Riga District Court, as the Best Judge. According to the judges’ evaluation, the best written work was prepared by Linards Birznieks, Jānis Guobis, and Anete Kaparkalēja. Erasmus+ study mobility offers students the opportunity to study at a partner university in one of the participating countries while receiving a grant. This programme aims to provide students with valuable academic, linguistic, and cultural experiences by studying abroad, fostering the development of well-qualified, open-minded, and internationally experienced professionals. All students enrolled at the Faculty of Law without academic or tuition fee debts, are eligible to participate. Within each study cycle (Bachelor, Master, or PhD), students can undertake a study and/orpracticemobility for up to 12 months. Those who have already participated in the programme may apply again in the next study cycle.
Roberts Rūsis was born on 5 September 1933 in Riga, the eldest son of attorney and faculty member Armīns Rūsis (1907–1987) and Margareta (née Šortmane) (passed away in 1981). He had a brother – Armīns Rūsis. In 1929, the father of Roberts, Armīns Rūsis, graduated from the University of Latvia, Faculty of Economics and Law, the Department of Law. In the autumn of 1944, Rūsis family was forced to leave Riga and flee to Germany, where they settled with Margareta's parents in Werdau. In 1951, following an official invitation from the Lutheran Church in America, he travelled to the United States and settled in Washington. There, the church donated clothes, furniture and other necessities, as well as assisted in finding a job. In 1961, R.Rūsis obtained his law degree from George Washington University. Throughout the years he worked in the insurance field as a lawyer and administrator. By his retirement in 1999, he had become the head of Legal Department at Chubb Insurance Company

Mark Kirk, and in 2011 he was appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia to Illinois. He is also an active lifelong member of the American Latvian Association and currently holds the post of a Senior Elder of the student corporation "Lettgallia"Foreign Presidency. In 2014, Roberts Blumbergs was awarded the Three Star Order. Parents of R.Blumbergs, Gunārs and Ināra, were both born in Latvia and arrived in the United States in 1950 as children of the World War II refugees. Gunārs and Ināra have established a scholarship for students of the Faculty of Law. Both R.Blumbergs’ grandfathers and one grandmother have graduated from the UL.
