The purpose of writing the bachelor’s thesis is to develop and strengthen theoretical knowledge, as well as academic skills and talents related to the law, doing so in accordance with the requirements of the bachelor’s degree programme in law. The thesis also helps to prepare the student for studies at the (professional) master’s degree level. The bachelor’s thesis involves independent research and is the result of that scholarly research, as performed under the leadership of an academic consultant. In the thesis, the student proves the ability to work independently with sources of the law, to discuss aspects of the bachelor’s thesis with other authors, and to present and defend proposals which are of scholarly value. The bachelor’s thesis must be in line with requirements levelled by the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia vis-à-vis the successful defence of the bachelor’s thesis. Master's Thesis I
Course
The aim of the Master’s thesis I is to strengthen and develop theoretical knowledge, as well as academic skills and abilities, in the field of law, doing so in accordance with the requirements of the professional higher education in the law and the master’s degree programme, also preparing the student for scholarly research work, i.e., the full writing of the master’s thesis and the submission of same to the State Final Examination Commission. Master’s thesis I is in line with requirements set out by the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia vis-à-vis the successful defence of a master’s thesis. This includes planning, identification of sources and initial work on the thesis. Work on the thesis is considered to be begun if the student has prepared no less than one-quarter of the first draft of the thesis that is to be submitted for defence before the State Final Examination Commission.

The goal of the study course is to ensure the students of the Faculty of Law master the basics of forensic psychiatry. This knowledge is necessary for every lawyer regardless of the area of law enforcement in which he or she will be working. For the purposes of achieving the goal of the forensic psychiatry study course, the following tasks have been set in the study programme: - to ensure the study process during which the basics of forensic psychiatry and its sub-fields are taught; - to facilitate the mastering of knowledge, skills and competences crucial for the labour market in the sphere of forensic psychiatry; - to develop critical thinking skills by resolving matters related to forensic psychiatry during practical work.

It is the student's responsibility to find a solution and to provide a legal opinion to the client after having agreed it with the supervising attorney invited by the Center. Thus students learn to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills. 2) within the framework of the cooperation of the University of Latvia JF Law Practice and Help Center and the portal ManaBalss.lv. - to provide legal opinions or consultations regarding the initiatives registered in the collective application portal www.manabalss.lv. Only those students who have previously completed and successfully passed the course
