The aim of the professional bachelor’s study programme “Mathematician Statistician” is to prepare qualified mathematicians and statisticians who could work in Latvian state institutions and private sector companies – the prospective employers are ministries, Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia, local governments, audit firms, insurance and reinsurance companies, banks, etc. in the positions of mathematician statistician or in another profession where it is necessary to systematically perform in-depth, mathematically valid statistical analysis, mathematical modelling and data-based forecasting of future possibilities.
Study Programme Director
The programme offers the theoretical basis of mathematical courses necessary for successful mastering of the professional specialization courses in mathematics and statistics required for the profession of mathematician statistician. The programme envisages an internship in the volume of 20 credit points, during which the student can apply the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired in the study courses in solving real-life, practical tasks, as well as become conversant with the specific features of the profession. The programme also includes general education courses taught at the University of Latvia – Basic Entrepreneurship and Communication Psychology. These courses expand students' horizons both in economics and law issues related to the profession, and in the matters regarding exploration of the world.
The degree acquired after graduating the professional bachelor’s study programme “Mathematician Statistician” provides an education equivalent to that offered in other European Union countries and beyond. Thus, by fulfilling the programme requirements, the student acquires professional skills and abilities necessary for the work of a mathematician statistician, as well as academic knowledge in mathematics, which opens an opportunity to continue the studies in the relevant master's programmes.

Pēc matemātikas statistikas studiju absolvēšanas LU FMOF visas durvis ir atvērtas! LU FMOF izglītība ir derīga visur! Matemātikas izglītība ir ļoti labs pamats, lai studijas turpinātu gan ekonomikā, gan datorikā un vēl ļoti daudzās citās nozarēs. Es strādāju datu zinātnē, bet mani kursa biedri ātro kredītu uzņēmumos vai citās finanšu iestādēs, apdrošināšanas kompānijās par risku novērtētājiem, aktuāriem. Ir iespēja strādāt arī par grāmatvedi. Iespējas ir daudz un ļoti dažādas. Jebkura LU FMOF iegūtā izglītība dod tādu prasmju kopumu, kuru var ļoti viegli papildināt ar citām zināšanām. Fizmatos ir īpaši aktīva sociālā dzīve! Absolventi pēc augstskolas parasti sāk darbu zemākā amata kategorijā (aktuāra asistents, jaunākais aktuārs, jaunākais analītiķis utml).
