The project “Values and virtues in education” investigates how digital, research-based virtue education can effectively support adolescents’ moral development in contemporary school contexts. Building on a long-term research programme in Latvia, the project focuses on two tightly connected strands: (1) a longitudinal effectiveness study of the digital e-TAP+ moral education curriculum for students aged 16–19, and (2) the modernisation of the existing e-TAP curriculum for younger students (grades 4–9) through the responsible integration of artificial intelligence in moral education. At its core, the project examines whether and how structured digital curricula enhance adolescents’ moral self (including moral awareness, moral emotions, reasoning, engagement, and behaviour) using a large-scale longitudinal randomised controlled trial. In parallel, it explores the pedagogical fit, feasibility, and ethical implications of AI-supported learning activities (e.g. AI-generated moral dilemmas and reflective tasks) in virtue education. The project combines curriculum research, educational technology, and moral psychology, while remaining closely connected to school practice. We welcome Marie Curie postdoctoral candidates with interests in moral or character education, educational psychology, curriculum studies, digital education, or AI in education. Ideal candidates will be motivated to work with longitudinal data, intervention research, and curriculum innovation, and to contribute to international publications and interdisciplinary dialogue at the intersection of ethics, education, and technology.
