Grasping the relationship between geographical mobilities and left-behind areas requires recognising that human mobility is inherently complex and influences society in numerous ways. Geographical mobility takes many forms, from everyday commuting and changes in residence to internal and international migration. A fuller understanding demands examining mobility patterns across different scales while also attending to the lived experiences of people in left-behind places.
