In the 21st century, the sustainability of languages, cultures, and communities is deeply intertwined with the digital environments and ecosystems shaped by the information society. For critically endangered and under-resourced languages and communities, rapidly advancing technologies present both opportunities and risks: they can provide powerful tools to support vitality and continuity, yet they also create significant challenges in keeping pace with majority languages in digital spaces. These challenges span a wide range of issues—from the production, governance, and stewardship of digital data, to strengthening digital presence; supporting intergenerational transmission and language acquisition; and ensuring that technologies are developed and deployed in ways that are inclusive, safe, and beneficial for the communities they are meant to serve
