Indra Odiņa - Short description of topic:
The proposed research could be a comparative analysis of key structural aspects of teacher education, focusing on three main areas:
1. Enrolment and admission procedures – how candidates are selected for teacher education programmes, including academic requirements, entrance examinations, interviews, and other selection criteria used to assess applicants’ suitability for teaching.
2. Programme models and curriculum structure – different models of teacher education, such as concurrent programmes (where subject knowledge and pedagogical studies are integrated) and consecutive programmes (where pedagogical training follows subject studies). It also examines the structure of modules, the balance between theoretical coursework and teaching practice, and the role of educational sciences in the curriculum.
3. Qualification and certification procedures – how future teachers obtain professional qualifications, including teaching practice requirements, final examinations, and certification processes required for entering the teaching profession.
Overall, the proposed research highlights similarities and differences in teacher education systems, identifying trends and challenges in educating qualified teachers. The findings contribute to discussions on improving teacher education policy, programme design, and quality assurance in teacher education
