Open data means that data obtained during research is made publicly available, allowing other scientists to reuse it, verify it, and build new research on it. This accelerates scientific progress and increases the impact of research by promoting reproducibility and collaboration among scientists.

UL researchers have access to the University's data collection in the DataverseLV repository with the support of data stewards in the deposition process. The repository provides free data publication, automatic DOI assignment to data sets, and data indexing in the international systems OpenAIRE and EOSC, making UL researchers' data discoverable on a European scale.

Not all data can be completely open. Sometimes data cannot be published due to sensitivity, ethical considerations, or legal restrictions. In such cases, metadata with information about the existence of data or anonymized data fragments can be published, preserving the principles of open science as much as possible.

Detailed information on research data management, the development of data management plans, data organization, and the publication process is available in the section "Research Data Management".
