Founded in 1919, the University of Latvia (UL) is the country’s leading comprehensive university and one of the most prominent research institutions in the Baltic region. Situated in the vibrant heart of Riga, UL combines a proud academic tradition with a strong drive for innovation, interdisciplinary excellence, and international collaboration.

Today, the UL is home to 15 000 students, 6 faculties, and 15 research institutes, making it one of the largest and most prominent comprehensive research universities in the Baltic States. The University offers more than 130 state-accredited academic and professional study programmes across a wide spectrum of disciplines. Research at UL is conducted in over 50 fields, covering the humanities and education sciences, social sciences, exact sciences, and medicine.

Every year, UL researchers participate in approximately 900 research projects, take part in around 1000 international conferences, and publish over 1000 peer-reviewed scientific publications, contributing significantly to the advancement of science and innovation both in Latvia and internationally.
