Head : prof. MārcisAuziņš Email: marcis.auzins@lu.lv The department promotes research and science-based education in atomic, molecular and optical physics, medical physics, as well as astronomy and astrophysics. Within the study process and research, the chair coordinates its activities with the UL Laser Centre and the UL Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy, where many of the chair’s staff members carry out their research, as well as the UL Institute of Astronomy and the UL Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics.

For a centenary, patrons and benefactors have shown that generosity enhances achievement. "Perpetuum Mobile" is a collection of scientific articles authored by researchers who have received the support of by the UL Foundation patrons. This volume emphasizes and summarizes the most current achievements of researchers supported by the UL Foundation and patrons. Furthermore, the collection highlights all the recent scholarship recipients and serves as a bright beacon for new achievements. Head of the Editorial Board: Ivars Ījabs. sessions: a formal hybrid meeting followed by an evening social gathering. During the formal hybrid meeting, Ph.D. students participated remotely and in person at the House of Science, where a panel of four invited speakers informed, discussed, and clarified various concerns and prompted engaging dialogues. The Head of the Physics department, assistant professor, Dr. Guntars Kitenbergs, welcomed the students with a cordial greeting and provided them with information on the meta course (PhD studies in physics, astronomy, and mechanics) that is available on e-studies as well as updates that will be made in the near future. The director of the Physics PhD study program prof. MārcisAuziņš answered students' questions about the credit system, mobility options and support during studies. The new joint PhD program in Particle physics and Accelerator technologies that is commencing at FMOF generated a conversation that was highly engaging. Following up on the engaging discussion
